Dear Readers,
Ray Logan was fired from his position as a delivery driver at UPS in Kentucky after 33 years. When you hear his story, you might wonder how he lasted that long.
Ray was at home with his dogs in his rural home in Owensboro (about an hour from where Breonna Taylor was killed by police), when he sent Lioness an email, not expecting to hear back–every other option he had tried to get justice had been a dead end.
Ray had been a UPS driver for 33 years. Decades of racist treatment within the company and in the Kentucky neighborhoods in which he delivered had culminated in his being fired.
We got on the phone with Ray and his former union representative and they told us the broad strokes: UPS had fired Ray based on false allegations. A union hearing had taken place, but it was a kangaroo court. The rules had been thrown aside and they had no proof of any misconduct. When Ray’s union rep (who backed up everything Ray said as true) protested during the hearing, one of the people running the tribunal asked,
“So who are you, Johnnie Cochrane?”
The implication, if it isn’t obvious: Ray was O.J. Simpson.
